Totem 1992

Totem er en serie fotos tatt blandt Tlingit, Haida og Tsimsian indianerne på sørvestkysten av Alaska og British Colombia Canada.

Ordet totem betyr beskyttende dyr. Totempælen forteller sagn om forfedre og klanens beskyttende ånder eller viktige hendelser i stammens historia. Ved hjelp av danser og sanger fikk stammens sjaman kraft og veiledning fra de forskjellige skydds dyrene.

  Totem is a series of photos taken among the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimsian indians on the south west coast of Alaska and British Colombia Canada.

  The word totem means protective animals. The totem pole tells the story of ancestors and the clan´s protective spirits or important events in the history of the tribe. With the help of dances and songs the tribe´shaman got the power and guidance from the various protective animals.
